Fingal Rowing Club – September 28th 2019
The Lambay Rowing Challenge is a family festival and competitive rowing race hosted by Fingal Rowing Club in North County Dublin.
Our aim is to showcase our local community and to attract participants from all corner of the Ireland and international visitors.
Join us in the beautiful surroundings of Rush, County Dublin and enjoy an action packed day for all the family, there is something for everyone on our planned activities. The family festival is the heart of this event, where local produce, wildlife, music and community’ come to life.
We have a wildlife challenge for kids young and old. Music, food, local produces and tasting classes with our sponsor Lambay. For those who love the water there will be plenty of excitement as we have invited boats from far and wide to take part in The Lambay Rowing Challenge.
This event is for experienced ocean rowing crews & vessels. All coastal rowing styles are welcome, from traditional wooden working boats called Skiffs, Currachs, Singles, Celtic longboats and more…
The course covers a distance of approx 19km of open water rowing circumnavigating Lambay Island, starting and finishing at Rush Sailing Club in Rogerstown Estuary.
This challenge is packed full of fun but is not for the faint of heart and will test the crews involved.
Once you have arrived please go to the check-in desk and take instruction from stewards and registration people. You will need to have paid your entry in advance (using our online system) to get your bow numbers.
Enclosed parking for trailers is available in and around Rush Sailing Club, please follow signs and directions as given by our marshals. There will be a BBQ and refreshments available at the club house after the race – all are welcome!
Location & Start Time
The Lambay Rowing Challenge is a 19km open water race starting from Rush Sailing Club, Linkside, Rush, Co. Dublin.
The race map is available to download here and a laminated print out will be given to every boatcox/boat, at the coxes meeting.
Helpful Notes & Links
Clubs from all over the country and international crews will be invited to join in the event. Spaces will be limited to between 24 – 30 boats so book your place now! We will use over 10 boats to provide safety cover. These boats will be manned by over 30 volunteers including the members of the emergency services who will be providing First Aid and Ambulance cover. Timers, marshals, slip stewards and traffic management will demand 15+ additional volunteers. A total involvement of in excess of 500 people and then there are the supporters and spectators who will come to view and support the days racing!
